Lately, when talking to clients about their projects and exchanging ideas with colleagues, I've gotten the impression that the future predicted by futurologists is already here.
If we ignore the side effects of rapid IT development, the changes are noticeable in how we actually use technology:
- When you use many IT products at once, you inevitably encounter problems because they weren't designed properly. These hidden issues lead to losses you only discover when problems become obvious.
- Training for IT specialists focuses on using existing products, not solving complex issues that arise from them. Stakeholders often have to accept these difficulties as unavoidable.
- Sales techniques for IT products prioritize everything but quality and transparency about potential problems (technical, legal, financial).
In practice, we're seeing signs of a shift in the IT market towards a new stage: the return of expertise to every part of the IT ecosystem.
But first, there will be a “major cleanup”.
This applies to all industries, not just IT.
But the impact will be most visible in the IT because the old ways, “quick and dirty”, “somehow” will no longer work.
Those who call themselves experts, but lack formal education will be left behind. The same goes for those who offer services after only short training courses. Real experts will have to clean up the mess left by these "specialists."
These true professionals are often not good at self-promotion because they're experts in their fields, not salespeople.
They work in teams, finding innovative solutions within companies that prioritize professionalism over hype.
There aren't many of them, and as this new stage of the market progresses, they'll become increasingly busy.
